Extraordinary Bakumatsu Era Archive of Nabeshima-han Manuscript Documents Unique assortment of handwritten documents of the Hideshima family

Irreplaceable archive of documents relating to the Nabeshima Clan of Saga Prefecture.

Including items dated 1856-1860 (Ansei 3-Man'en 1).

The box contains the following:

5 x single folding sheets relating to cannons and their design/ how to use them (amounts of gunpowder etc.)
4 x small manuscript books relating to military
1 x manuscript book containing military-related Japanese and Dutch words
1 x manuscript of a few pages with diagrams of cannons
1 x manuscript book of Japanese flags (this would have been used to identify the flags of other clans and whether they were friend or foe)
1 x manuscript book of world flags (very interesting because it actually is mostly flags of world cities)
3 x large manuscript folding maps (two coloured)
9 x single sheets (about A4 size)

Most items are dated between Ansei 3 and Man'en 1 (1856-1860) and signed Hideshima.

Overall in very good condition. The box has done well protecting the items inside. A couple of the books have some minor worming that affects a small area. General age wear.
