Early Japanese World Map by Kurihara Nobuaki
Woodblock printed Double Hemisphere Map of the World
with separate matching descriptive notes page
by Kurihara Nobuaki
Kaei era (c.1848)
Map measures 66cm x 40cm
Descriptive notes page 66cm x 29.5cm
The descriptive notes mention that the map was copied from a French map from 1835.
In good condition with general age wear. Numerous small repaired wormholes but not so noticeable. Usual folds. Map and descriptive notes page may have been joined at some point as we have seen at least one that was joined. Still an impressive map from a very interesting period in Japanese history.
